The filly Missap beats the boys in Green Carpet Stakes

Despite being the only filly in the field of Ohio-bred 3-year-olds, Missap was sent away as the favorite in Sunday's $75,000 Green Carpet Stakes at Belterra Park. She didn't disappoint, holding on for a half-length victory over Forewarned in the 1 1/16-mile turf event.
Missap ($4) and regular rider Dean Sarvis sat an unhurried fourth, just over two lengths back, as stakes winner Buster's Boy took the field through the opening half. Missap began to make up ground entering the far turn and swept four wide to take aim on Buster's Boy. She easily took command when straightened away, pulling clear to lead by 1 1/2 lengths in midstretch. Forewarned, who was seventh of eight after three-quarters, rallied powerfully to edge Deer Creek Road by three-quarters of a length for the place.
The final time for the 1 1/16 miles on turf rated firm was 1:42.56.
Missap is now a stakes winner on both turf and dirt. The filly came into the Green Carpet off a runner-up effort, beaten a half-length by major-upset winner Spinning Top, in the Tomboy Stakes on May 13 at Belterra, her turf debut. Missap, who is trained by Kellyn Gorder for breeder Beckett Racing, distinguished herself last year by winning the John W. Galbreath Memorial Stakes by five lengths on the Best of Ohio showcase program.
