Fielder ($35.20) upsets Marshall Jenny Stakes

Longshot Fielder rallied to catch pacesetter Spartianos in the closing strides to upset the $100,000 Marshall Jenny Stakes for Pennsylvania-bred older horses sprinting on the turf at Parx Racing on Saturday.
Dismissed at 16-1 odds following a seventh-place finish on dirt at Parx on June 30 and being untested on grass, Fielder relished the change of surface. Third early, as Spartianos shot away from the pack in the five-furlong Marshall Jenny, he closed determinedly down the lane to nail the tired leader by a nose nearing the wire.
A 4-year-old Sidney’s Candy gelding owned by Waldorf Racing Stables and trained by Marya Montoya, he raced five furlongs in 57.51 seconds. He returned $35.20.
He was not the only price horse to fare well in the Marshall Jenny, with Spartianos holding second at 8-1 odds, and fellow 8-1 shot Hollywood Talent outfinishing 9-5 favorite The Critical Way for third. They contributed to a 50-cent Trifecta that paid $931.10.
