Field Pass continues strong campaign with victory in Transylvania Stakes

Field Pass connected for his fourth stakes victory of 2020 as he prevailed in a tight finish to win the Grade 3, $100,000 Transylvania Stakes for 3-year-olds on the turf Sunday at Keeneland.
Field Pass ($6.40), a 3-year-old Lemon Drop Kid colt, has now won 5 of 11 career starts overall for Three Diamonds Farm and trainer Mike Maker. Grade 3-placed as a juvenile, he has come into his own this year to win 4 of his 5 outings, all in stakes company. After opening his campaign by winning the Dania Beach Stakes on the Gulfstream Park turf, he won the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks on Turfway’s Polytrack. After finishing third in the War Chant at Churchill Downs, he rebounded to win the Audubon Stakes last month on that course.
Field Pass was fifth approaching the quarter pole of the Transylvania under Ricardo Santana Jr. – his fifth different rider in as many starts this year. The duo made a four-wide bid for the lead outside of graded stakes-placed stablemate Fancy Liquor, early leader Juggernaut, who was about to fade dramatically, and Street Ready.

After a furious drive through the final furlong, Field Pass prevailed by a nose over Street Ready. Fancy Liquor was another neck back in third, edging out City Man by a half-length. The entire field of 10 runners was separated by less than four lengths at the wire.
The final time for the 1 1/16 miles on good turf after overnight rain was 1:42.56.
