Field 3-2 early in Derby future bet

The mutuel field was the 3-2 favorite after relatively light wagering in the early hours of Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opened Thursday at noon Eastern.

As of 4 p.m. Eastern, handle into the win-only Future Wager stood at $20,453. Pool 2 closes Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern.

The mutuel field is the 24th, or "all others," alternative to the 23 separately listed wagering interests. Next in line were Bluegrass Cat (11-1), Lawyer Ron (12-1), Brother Derek (12-1), and First Samurai (15-1).

Pool 2 in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is running concurrent with the Derby futures. On handle of just $2,309, Balance was the early 7-1 favorite over Folklore, Wild Fit, and the field, all at 8-1. The Oaks futures close Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.
