Smiles Ahead and Miss Kipling both delivered as 1-5 favorites in Saturday night’s two divisions of the $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Stakes for 2-year-olds at Remington Park. Smiles Ahead ($2.40) won the third stakes race of his career in the Stallion Stakes, when he stalked the pace in third and darted clear by 4 ¾ lengths. Ken Shino was aboard the winner, who covered six furlongs in 1:11.40. Wilson Brown bred, owns, and trains Smiles Ahead and said long-term plans are to point the horse for the next division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes. It will be held during the winter-spring meet at Will Rogers Downs near Tulsa. Earlier this year, Smiles Ahead won the Oklahoma Classics Night Juvenile and the Prairie Meadows Gold Juvenile. Miss Kipling ($2.40) eked out a head win over Gotagogotagogotago in the fillies division of the Stallion Stakes. She sat in fourth early, moved in on the leaders approaching the quarter pole, and went on to cover six furlongs in 1:12.94. Cliff Berry was aboard for trainer Bret Calhoun. Miss Kipling, who last month won the Oklahoma Classics Night Lassie, races for the partnership of Young Stables and K. and J. Hall.
