Favorites rule day

Carrots Only collared the pace-setting Fagedaboudit Sal to post a neck victory in the $135,000 Charles Hesse Jersey Breeders' Handicap at Monmouth Park.

Ridden by Chris DeCarlo for trainer John Mazza, Carrots Only ($5.20) ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.53 on the fast track to capture the richest race of the day.

Favorites won the three stakes on the 10-race card devoted to New Jersey-breds.

Joey P. ($3.60) made a strong inside move turning for home on his way to a 2 1/2-length victory over Charley's Diamond in the $110,000 Friendly Lover Handicap. Joe Bravo was aboard for trainer Ben Perkins Jr. The time was 1:09.74 for the six furlongs.

Jenny Bean Girl ($4), with Stewart Elliott up for trainer J. Willard Thompson, rallied five-wide entering the lane and went on to a 1 1/4-length win over Jersey Gia in the $110,000 Jersey Girl Handicap for fillies and mares. She ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.77.
