Favorites overlays in Kentucky Oaks Future Wager
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLELOUISVILLE, Ky. – It’ll be eight weeks Friday since the 2018 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager opened March 9. The lineup held together quite well.
Bettors who made the mutuel field, the 24th or “all others” option, the lukewarm 5-1 favorite during the three days of betting into the Oaks futures have wound up in a tenuous position at best. Conversely, those who played either of the likely favorites, Monomoy Girl or Midnight Bisou, got a good deal at 6-1.
The futures field comprises just three fillies: My Miss Lilly (10-1 on the morning line), Chocolate Martini (12-1), and Kelly’s Humor (30-1).

Aside from the two favorites being higher odds in the Oaks futures than they will be Friday – Monomoy Girl is the 2-1 morning-line choice, followed closely by Midnight Bisou at 5-2 – the biggest overlays in the Oaks futures are Coach Rocks (12-1 morning line) and Rayya (15-1), both at 60-1, and Sassy Sienna (15-1) at 57-1.
Other closing odds from the futures: Take Charge Paula, 18-1; Wonder Gadot, 21-1; Eskimo Kisses, 31-1; Classy Act, 51-1; Heavenyhasmynikki, 54-1; and Patrona Margarita, 68-1.
The lowest futures odds on fillies missing the race were Dream Tree, 7-1; Caledonia Road, 12-1; Midnight Disguise, 13-1; and Paved,13-1.
Oaks futures were first offered in 2003. Total handle (win and exacta) this year was $70,993.
Two-day wagers on tap
Once again the Oaks will lead off a couple of two-day wagers, the Oaks-Derby double (minimum, $1) and the Oaks-Old Forester-Derby pick three (minimum, 50 cents).
Handle last year was $2,508,756 on the double, and $720,893 on the pick three.
The Oaks-Derby double was first offered in 1996 and the pick three was first offered in 2009.
No dime superfectas
As in all prior years since 10-cent superfectas were first offered on Churchill races, the minimum superfecta increment will be $1 for all Friday and Saturday races here.
Track officials reason that to offer dime supers would be to risk unduly clogging betting lines both at Churchill and at hundreds of brick-and-mortar off-site wagering outlets. Oaks and Derby Days are the only time this policy is in effect, as dime supers will be available on the Breeders’ Cup races Nov. 2-3 at Churchill.
