Favorite Trick dead

Favorite Trick, 1997's juvenile champion and Horse of the Year, has died in a fire at the JEH Stallion Station's western division in Hondo, New Mexico. The fire, which started Tuesday night and was contained to the stallion barn, killed the farm's entire stallion roster, including Thoroughbreds Saratoga Six and Gone Hollywood as well as Quarter Horses The Down Side, Fredericksburg, and Southern Cartel. A farm official said Wednesday morning that no humans were injured and that the farm's mares, foals, and yearlings were also uninjured. The fire marshal's investigation of the blaze was expected to take several days. Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Favorite Trick, 11, was the sire of such runners as Texas stakes-winner Yucatan and recent Grade 3 Kentucky Breeders' Cup winner Datrick.
