With favorite scratched, fillies center stage in Breeders' Derby
The $122,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Derby at Los Alamitos on Saturday will have a new favorite after Monopolist was withdrawn in favor of a start in the Los Alamitos Super Derby trials on Oct 16.
Monopolist was the fastest qualifier for the PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby in two 400-yard time trials on Sept. 11. Trainer James Glenn Jr., and owner and breeder Ed Allred submitted the scratch on Thursday. Allred owns Los Alamitos.
Without Monopolist in the field, the fillies Go to Girl, a well-bred trial race winner, and College Scandal, who was third against a much better field in the $197,700 Golden State Derby at 400 yards on Aug. 15, will have leading roles.
Go to Girl drew the inside post for her stakes debut.
Trained by Mike Casselman, Go to Girl has won her last three starts – a maiden race in April, an allowance race in August, and her time trial. This will be a class test for Go to Girl, one of four fillies in the final.

Go to Girl is by Favorite Cartel and is out of Remember Me Rose, who won 9 of 18 starts, including the Ruidoso Derby in 2007. Remember Me Rose is the dam of such major stakes winners as Cyber Monday, Powerful Favorite, and Runforyourlife.
College Scandal was second to Monopolist in the trials, and can win her first stakes in the PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby.
Trained by Juan Aleman, College Scandal has inherited the role of fastest qualifier for Saturday’s race. College Scandal was timed in 19.90 seconds in the trials.
