Favorite Honey has experience edge in Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity
Favorite Honey was the second-fastest qualifier to Sunday’s $320,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity at Los Alamitos in time trials held on Sept. 12.
Favorite Honey won the last of six 350-yard trials in 17.76 seconds. El Tio Angel won his trial in 17.73.
But Favorite Honey has an edge in experience over that rival and the other four trial race winners.
Favorite Honey was third in the Governor’s Cup Futurity at 350 yards on July 31. Trained by Monty Arrossa for Five Livestock Company and Steve Wright, Favorite Honey has won 3 of 5 starts and earned $46,570, the most among the 10 qualifiers for Sunday’s race.

The race lacks a nationally or regionally prominent runner.
FG Jess Seis, eighth in the Kindergarten Futurity in May, and Dasha Good Reason, fifth in the California Juvenile Challenge in August, are the only others aside from Favorite Honey with futurity experience.
Dasha Good Reason, a half-brother to 2015 World Champion Heza Dasha Fire, won a division of the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity trials in 17.86 seconds, for his fourth win in five starts. In the California Juvenile Challenge, Dasha Good Reason was eliminated after a slow start.
El Tio Angel, trained by Felix Gonzalez, overcame a bump at the start of the trial to win by a neck over Corona Yo and Favorite First Down, who also earned berths in the final.
El Tio Angel breaks from post 7 and must contend with Precysion, who drew the outside post. Trained by Valentin Zamudio, Precysion won a time trial in 17.79 seconds, the gelding’s first win in his fifth start.
