Fatal Bullet favored off synthetic record

John McDulin|Aug 30, 2008

Fatal Bullet heads a field of seven sprinters going six furlongs in the the $100,000 Tom Ridge Labor Day Stakes for 3-year-olds over the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle Downs Monday.

Trained by Reade Baker, Fatal Bullet has won 5 of 6 races over synthetic surfaces. In his last out July 20, the gelded son of Red Bullet won the 6 1/2-furlong Bold Venture against older horses at Woodbine. Jockey Eurico Da Silva kept Fatal Bullet just off the pace in the $151,000 Bold Venture before they rallied in the stretch to win by three lengths. That running style should fit well in the Tom Ridge, a race laden with early speed.

M J's Enchanteur should contest the early lead. Trained by Scott Lake, M J's Enchanteur comes off two straight stakes wins. In the $57,000 Oh Say at Delaware Park July 7, M J's Enchanteur led from start to finish to win by three-quarters of a length. He came back Aug. 9 to win the $70,000 Select at Monmouth in front-running style, winning by three-quarters of a length and registering a lifetime top Beyer Speed Figure of 98. M J's Enchanteur won his only start on a synthetic surface, a maiden race at Woodbine last year. Josue Arce gets the call.

Siphon the Kitty is 2 for 2 over synthetic surfaces. Trained by Graham Motion, Siphon the Kitty has run on the turf in his last three races, but trains at Fair Hill in Maryland, which also has a Tapeta surface. Rosemary Homeister Jr. will ride.

Also Monday, six statebred 2-year-old fillies will go 5 1/2 furlongs in the $75,000 Channel Three. Sky Baby will likely be favored off a second-place finish in the Colleen at Monmouth Park Aug. 2 for trainer Steve Assmussen. Keystone Baby will also be well-backed off a maiden win against open company at Penn National by seven lengths in her only start.

Six Pennsylvania-bred colts and geldings are in the $75,000 Send More Money, race 4 on the card. Juke Joint should be the prohibitive choice off an impressive local maiden win July 20. Juke Joint led from start to finish to win by 9 3/4 lengths. Trained by Lonnie Stokes, Juke Joint will ridden by Dale Beckner.

Blitzendiscogogetem finished second to Juke Joint July 20, and came back to win his maiden race Aug. 3. Others in the field are Indomitable Prince, Strike My Fuse, Fast Eddie, and So Rich.
