Fast Puff looks to stay undefeated in George Wafer Memorial
Fast Puff will seek to remain undefeated in five starts Sunday when she takes on the streaking Contend and the Southern California shipper Divine Way in the $40,000 George Wafer Memorial at Arapahoe Park.
The Wafer, to be run at seven furlongs, is restricted to 3-year-old fillies. It drew eight.
Fast Puff has won all four of her career starts by a combined margin of 21 3/4 lengths. She has raced exclusively at Arapahoe, launching her career last June in a maiden special weight for Colorado-breds, then winning a pair of stakes by the close of the season in August. She returned to action May 31 to win her 3-year-old debut over older rivals in the $45,000 Ingrid Knotts.
Fast Puff showed a new dimension in the six-furlong race by stalking the leaders. All of her previous wins had come wire to wire. Since the comeback, Fast Puff has been flattered, with two horses she defeated in the Ingrid Knotts returning to win in their next starts, one of them an allowance at Arapahoe.
Fast Puff will be moving back into open company Sunday after facing Colorado-breds in the Ingrid Knotts. Luis Rodriguez has the mount from post 7 for co-owner and trainer Butch Gleason. Fast Puff also races for David V. Robertson Jr.
Contend has won all three of her starts since moving to the region from Florida. She is a daughter of Big Brown, and she is owned by Tony Pennington and trained by the New Mexico-based Justin Evans. Divine Way has been racing in claiming company at Santa Anita.
