Fast Munny, Ziconic will go two turns next time
ARCADIA, Calif .- Fast Munny, the upset winner of a maiden race on Saturday that included Ziconic, the second foal out of 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, is likely to have his next start around two turns in March, trainer Craig Dollase said on Sunday.
Ziconic will also race around two turns in March, against maidens, trainer John Shirreffs said.
Fast Munny ($25.80) closed from fourth in a field of seven to win the seven-furlong race by 1 1/4 lengths over Dalmore, who made his sixth start on Saturday. Dalmore has been second three times. Ziconic closed from last, after trailing by more than 15 lengths, to finish 1 3/4 lengths behind Fast Munny.
Dollase said he expected a solid debut from Fast Munny, a colt by Munnings who races for Bloom Racing Stable and Highlander Racing Stable.
“It didn’t surprise me he ran as well as he did,” Dollase said. “He showed a lot of courage and fight down the lane.
“He came out of it fine. I’d like to go two turns. That will be the next step. We’re excited about his prospects.”
Ziconic races for breeders Jerry and Ann Moss, who campaigned Zenyatta. Trainer John Shirreffs said on Sunday he was pleased with Ziconic’s condition and that a maiden race is a practical plan for the colt’s next start. There is hope that Ziconic can progress rapidly if he wins his next start.
“He looks good,” Shirreffs said. “In the back of our mind, we’ll be ambitious.”
