Fast Most Furious looks tough in Sha Tin Trophy Mile
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEWith the Hong Kong racing season hurtling to a close, Fast Most Furious can win the featured Sha Tin Trophy Mile Handicap on Sunday.
The Sha Tin Trophy Mile, a Class 1 for horses rated 115-90, comes early on an 11-race card, going as race 4, post time 2 a.m. Eastern. The program starts at 12:30 a.m, with wagering and live video at DRFBets.com.
Fast Most Furious will have leading rider Zac Purton in the irons for this 1,600-meter one-turn contest that drew eight entrants. Fast Most Furious is rated 105, with only Jolly Banner above him in the ratings, and has to tote 130 pounds. He might be up to the task if he can reproduce his most recent showing, a strong closing third in the Group 3 Lion Rock Trophy, a 1,600-meter race on May 31 at Sha Tin. Fast Most Furious clung to the rail while racing near the back of the field much of the trip, swung to about the five path to make a homestretch rally, and finished, well, furiously to get third, beaten a nose for second by the high-level performer Southern Legend and another nose for win by pacesetting Ka Ying Star.

Neither of those horses starts Sunday, though Jolly Banner himself exits a Group 3 win in the 1,400-meter Premier Cup on June 21. He’s assigned top weight of 133 pounds, but jockey Matthew Poon still gets a two-pound apprentice allowance. Jolly Banner’s staying power will be tested over a distance this long.

General’s Delight gets in at just 118 pounds and might have a chance. The 4-year-old has started only five times in Hong Kong, and after a Class 2 handicap win two races back, he was a creditable fourth in the Lion Rock Trophy. General’s Delight raced on the rail ahead of Fast Most Furious but got stuck with nowhere to run trying to maneuver outside through the final 400 meters, eventually diving back toward the rail and finishing evenly.
