Fast Jack holds off W W Scout’s Honor in Molaro
The trainer Scott Becker said he found it difficult to separate his three entrants in the $75,000 Robert S. Molaro Handicap. That was a fair assessment. The Becker-trained Fast Jack set the pace under Victor Santiago and held clear a sustained bid from the Becker-trained W W Scout’s Honor to win the Molaro by a nose at Hawthorne on Sunday.
Becker’s third horse, Walker’s Win, lost all chance with a stumbling start from post 1. He loomed wide on the turn and faded to last.
The top two home clearly were best, with former Becker trainee Wildwood Sicilian 2 1/2 lengths behind W W Scout’s Honor in third.
W W Scout’s Honor was the 19-10 favorite in this Illinois-bred race while Fast Jack paid a generous $11.20 to win, running six furlongs in a snappy 1:09.79.
Fast Jack, now 10-7-2-0 in his career, is a 4-year-old gelding by Ghaaleb out of Turtle Pie, by Wild Zone. Bred by William Tippett, he’s owned by Becker and Scott Ritter.
