Fast Anna resumes training after knee surgery

Fast Anna, who set the pace into the stretch before finishing fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, returned to the track for the first time Thursday at Gulfstream Park after undergoing minor knee surgery this winter, according to trainer Kathy Ritvo.
Fast Anna, a grand-looking son of Medaglia d’Oro out of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Dreaming of Anna, walked once around the nine-furlong oval accompanied by Ritvo and her stable pony. Fast Anna started five times at 3, winning twice while also finishing second in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop at Saratoga and second in the Gallant Bob at Parx.
“He’s doing great, and it shouldn’t take too long to get him fit again,” said Ritvo. “But we’re not going to rush him, and we’ve got nothing really mapped out for him at the present time.”

Grade 3 winner Csaba retired
Csaba, a mainstay in the local handicap division for several years, has been retired. Csaba, a son of Kitten’s Joy, won 13 of 36 starts, including three Grade 3 races. He earned $682,440 for owners Bruce Hollendorfer and Gary Shapoff while trained throughout his career by Phil Gleaves.
Gleaves said Csaba, 6, will stand stud at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Ocala, Fla.
“He has been good to us over the years, so now it’s time for us to be good to him,” said Gleaves.
