Fasig-Tipton will pay a $500,000 bonus if a yearling offered at its forthcoming California Fall Sale wins a Grade 1 race in 2027 or 2028, the prominent sale company announced on Thursday.
The bonus will be divided between the owner of the horse at the time of the Grade 1 win and the consignor at auction. The bonus will be paid to the first winner of such a race during the horse’s 2- or 3-year-old seasons.
The California Fall Yearling Sale, the only dedicated yearling sale in the state, will be held at Fairplex in Pomona on Sept. 30.
The promotion is a partnership between Fasig-Tipton and the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Horses sold at the auction or listed as buybacks will qualify, according to a statement.
“We hope this bonus will give extra encouragement to both sellers and buyers to participate in this year’s sale,” Mike Machowsky, Fasig-Tipton’s California representative, said in a statement.
