SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A share in prominent young sire Not This Time was purchased for $2 million by by a partnership headed by Leonard Green’s D. J. Stable in a sale conducted by Fasig-Tipton on Tuesday evening. The share in Not This Time was offered before the second and final session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale began. Anna Seitz, director of client relations for Fasig-Tipton, was presented with the winning ticket and walked away with it without signing. She indicated that she could not disclose information on the winning bid. The share in Not This Time represented 2 percent in the 9-year-old Giant’s Causeway horse, as part of a 50-share syndicate. The offering was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. Taylor Made stands Not This Time, who was campaigned by Albaugh Family Stables, in Nicholasville, Ky. Not This Time, a Grade 3 winner as a juvenile before injury ended his career, is the sire of four crops of racing age, including current 2-year-olds. He is the sire of 31 stakes winners, 13 of those being graded stakes winners. That group is led by last year's Eclipse Award champion 3-year-old male Epicenter; this year's Group 1 Golden Shaheen winner Sibelius; this year's multiple Grade 1-winning turf standout Up to the Mark; and Grade 1 winners Just One Time and Princess Noor. Buoyed by those standouts, Not This Time finished 10th on the North American general sire earnings list in 2022, according to Daily Racing Form statistics, and ranks 10th for 2023 through Aug. 7. He stood for an advertised fee of $135,000 in 2023. “The horse is doing so great, and what’s very unusual about Not This Time is that he started his stallion career when he was 3 years old, so he’s a 9-year-old horse that is already a proven stallion,” said Duncan Taylor of Taylor Made. “I think that he’s got so much upside. His mares [when he entered stud], they were good mares for a $15,000 horse, but they’re not the same kind of mares that a Justify gets when he first goes to stud. So he’s basically improved all those mares. So this year, he got a great book, and the future looks brilliant for the horse. We’re very blessed to have him.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
