Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed sale shows large gains

F-T Saratoga Fall Mixed Sale Malibu Moon - Stopspendingmaria Oct 17 2022
Fasig-Tipton Photo This filly by Malibu Moon out of Stopspendingmaria was one of three New York-bred weanlings to sell for $150,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale on Monday.

A demand for young New York-bred stock to pursue the state’s lucrative incentive programs was seen during the summer yearling marketplace, as the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred yearling sale posted some of the best figures in its history. The demand continued at Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga fall mixed sale as a trio of $150,000 New York-bred weanlings pushed the sale to across-the-board gains on Monday.

Fasig-Tipton reported that 136 horses changed hands in the single-session sale for gross receipts of $4,533,200. Last year, 163 horses sold for $3,657,800.

The average price rose to $33,332, soaring 49 percent from $22,440 last year. The median doubled to $20,000. The buyback rate also improved significantly, checking in at 22 percent compared to 30 percent.

A filly from the final crop of classic sire Malibu Moon sold for $150,000 to Willow Brook Stables as the 14th horse through the ring to set the bar for the top price. That was matched later in the day, in order, by a daughter of successful young sire Not This Time, purchased by Christophe Clement, and a colt from first crop of Vekoma sold to Glencrest Farm, with Dailey Bloodstock as agent.

The Malibu Moon filly is out of the Grade 3-placed Montbrook mare Stopspendingmaria. She is the dam of stakes winner No Mo' Spending and stakes-placed Blewitt.

The Not This Time filly is the first foal out of the winning Lookin At Lucky mare Lookin Sharp. The young broodmare is a half-sister to stakes winners Malibu Beauty, Steady Warrior, and Steady N Love, as well as a full sister to stakes-placed Lucky in Malibu. Steady N Love is the dam of stakes winner Shackled Love.

The Vekoma colt is the first foal out of the Smiling Tiger mare Nice Smile, who is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Red Vine and stakes winner Breakthrough. Red Vine is by Vekoma's sire, Candy Ride, making this colt bred on the same cross. This is the family of graded stakes-winning millionaire Fort Prado.
