Fasig-Tipton, OBS swap dates for October yearling sales
In response to the changing racing industry calendar, Fasig-Tipton and the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. have come to an agreement to swap dates for a pair of yearling sales this October.
Fasig-Tipton will now conduct its Midlantic fall yearling sale on Oct. 5-6 in Timonium, Md., following the re-scheduled Preakness Stakes nearby on Oct. 3. The sale had previously been scheduled for Oct. 12-13. OBS will now conduct its fall yearling sale, which had been scheduled for earlier in the month, from Oct. 13-15. The first session will be a selected session, and the other two sessions will feature open yearlings.
“We’re pleased to be able to work with OBS to adjust the dates of our respective yearling sales,” Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said in a press release. “Traditionally, our spring Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale is held around the Preakness, and that model has worked very well for us through the years.”
In addition to positioning a regional sale near the Preakness, the shift in dates will allow potential buyers to attend both sales.
“The swapping of the yearling sale dates makes sense for OBS and Fasig-Tipton as the change allows both companies to better serve our buyers and sellers," OBS president Tom Ventura said in the release. "While we are competitive, it is important for us to shift gears in a way that helps industry participants as we react to the racing and sales calendar being turned upside down. Thankfully, racing is gearing up throughout the country.”
