The under-tack preview show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-year-olds in training sale concluded its three days of activity on Thursday with six juveniles sharing the bullet for a furlong. This is the first of two juvenile sales Fasig-Tipton will hold at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. After next week’s sale, with sessions on Monday and Tuesday, the auction company will host a sale in late June. Both sales, which offer 2-year-olds the opportunity to breeze over the dirt track at Timonium, will likely receive some added interest due to the hiatus this year of Fasig-Tipton’s Gulfstream sale. The Midlantic May sale, which has grown in prominence, gets added luster from the preceding Preakness Stakes at nearby Pimlico, and this year got some extra sparkle. Kentucky Derby winner Mage is a graduate of last year’s sale – as is unbeaten Faiza, the favorite for Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales Six juveniles worked a furlong, the traditional yardstick for these sales, in 10 seconds flat to stand out at the under-tack show. A colt by Awesome Slew breezed in that time during Tuesday's opening session to establish the benchmark. He was joined on Wednesday by an Into Mischief filly, along with a filly by Take Charge Indy and colts by Bolt d'Oro and Twirling Candy.  In Thursday's final session, a filly from the final crop of Arrogate joined the group. The filly, consigned by Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds, is out of the winning Mutakddim mare Twixy, dam of four winners from five starters. Those are led by multiple stakes winner Twixy Roll. This is the immediate family of Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb's Posse. A 10-second furlong is a solid time on Timonium's five-furlong track. Last year, when the colt eventually named Hejazi worked a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds, it marked the first time since 2012 that a juvenile had broken the 10-second barrier. Hejazi subsequently sold for a sale-record $3.55 million. Among the smaller group of juveniles to work a quarter-mile on Timonium's five-furlong track, a colt from the second crop of Triple Crown winner Justify and a colt from the first crop of multiple graded stakes winner Catalina Cruiser shared the bullet, each going in 21 2/5 seconds. :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! She is the dam of three winners from four starters. Multiple Grade 1 winner Wekiva Springs appears on the catalog page. The Catalina Cruiser colt is out of the winning Macho Uno mare Wicked Speed, whose five winners from six starters are led by stakes winner Freedom Speaks. Wicked Speed is a half-sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Fatal Bullet, stakes winner Millennia, and to Duchess Dancer, the dam of Queen's Plate winner Safe Conduct. It is also the immediate family of Canadian Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd. The colt is consigned by LG, as agent. For hip-by-hip results from the breeze show, click here.
