Fasig-Tipton Midlantic: Fast fillies at under-tack show

Joe Nevills|May 19, 2016

Thursday’s closing session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale under-tack show proved to be the fastest yet, with three juveniles tying the fastest time for an eighth of a mile at 10 seconds flat and two fillies setting a new fastest time for a quarter at 21 2/5 seconds.

Six horses tied for the fastest furlong over the three-day under-tack show at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Following are the three to achieve that time Thursday.

Hip 461, a Friesan Fire colt out of the stakes-winning Crafty Prospector mare Crafty Toast, who is the dam of three winners from six foals to race. The colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed Platinum Steel and Special Ruth as well as stakes producer Burnt. The extended family includes Grade 1 winner Our Native, Grade 2 winner Tacticus, and Grade 3 winner Give a Toast. Scanlon Training & Sales consigns the Pennsylvania-bred colt as agent.

Hip 568, a First Samurai filly out of the placed Grand Slam mare Grand September, who is the dam of one winner from four foals to race. She is from the family of Irish classic winner Mashaallah, Grade 1 winner Folk Art, and Grade 3 winners Grasshopper and Turf War. Casse Sales consigns the filly as agent.

Hip 592, a More Than Ready filly who is the second foal out of the stakes-winning Seattle Fitz mare Holly's Way. The West Virginia-bred's extended family includes stakes winners Quest Master, Junkanoo Party, and Centenarian. She sells as property of Grassroots Training and Sales.

The fastest time for two furlongs was set and matched Thursday by the following juveniles.

Hip 490, an Uncle Mo filly out of the unraced Tale of the Cat mare Dream Street, whose four winners from five foals to race include Grade 2-placed Lassofthemohicans. Her extended family is highlighted by champion Housebuster and Grade 2 winners Quero Quero, Nicole H, and Something Extra. Pike Racing consigns the filly as agent.

Hip 527, a Florida-bred Into Mischief filly out of the winning Smoke Glacken mare Fiery Glow, whose first foal to race is the stakes winner Normandia. She comes from the family of Grade 1 winner Her Smile, Grade 3 winner Prospective Ruler, and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Crossing Point. De Meric Sales consigns the filly as agent.

The auction will take place May 23-24, beginning each day at 10 a.m. Eastern.
