A Maryland-bred daughter of Uncle Mo led the way at $320,000 as the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale posted declines from last year's record figures after finishing its two-day run at the Maryland State Fairgrounds on Tuesday in Timonium. Fasig-Tipton reported 386 yearlings sold over the two-day sale for gross receipts of $10,266,400. At last year's two-day sale, 381 yearlings sold for $11,269,400. This year's cumulative average was $26,597, dipping 10 percent from 2021's record $29,578. The median dropped 25 percent, to $15,000 from the record $20,000. The 2021 yearling market that produced those Midlantic record figures was a resurgent one, particularly for statebred markets, following the disrupted sale schedule and economic restraint of the pandemic-hampered 2020 marketplace. The majority of the 2022 yearling sales have posted increases from 2021 figures, as a strong U.S. purse structure has led to a demand for young stock. The Midlantic fall sale thus goes against the national trend with these declines – but drops from record figures are considered understandable, as sales are statistically unlikely to establish high-water marks in every edition. This sale's buyback rate was a cumulative 17 percent, changing only slightly from 16 percent in 2021. The sale-topping Uncle Mo filly was purchased by Legion Bloodstock during Monday's opening session from the consignment of Scott Mallory, as agent for Determined Stud. The filly is out of the stakes-winning Singspiel mare Andina, who also was multiple graded stakes-placed. She is the dam of five winners from as many starters, including graded stakes winners Andina Del Sur and Australia Mia. The second-highest price of the sale was a Munnings colt who led Tuesday's second session when he sold for $200,000 to Summer Street. The Pennsylvania-bred was consigned by Becky Davis, as agent. The colt is out of the winning Medaglia d'Oro mare Frost Fire, the dam of two winners from as many starters. That pair includes stakes winner Streetwithnoname. Champion Allez France and Grade 1 winners Al Mamoon, La Gueriere, and Icon Project appear on the catalog page.
