Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale horses to watch

Nicole Russo|Jul 06, 2018

Following are horses to watch during the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale, based primarily on their pedigrees and racing or auction results of notable family members. The selections reflect catalog updates and sale outs through July 5.

Hip 9, filly by Palace Malice-Passe, by Dixie Union. Consigned by Perrone Sales, agent for Apache Farm.

This is the first crop for Belmont Stakes and Metropolitan Handicap winner Palace Malice, one of the many classic standouts by Curlin. This filly is a half-sister to Wonder Gal, who won three stakes, placed in four Grade 1 events, and earned nearly $1 million. Close relative Force the Pass, a Grade 1 winner, continues to add catalog updates for the family, and this is also the family of Grade 1 winner Perfect Drift.

Hip 40, filly by Malibu Moon-Sarnsational, by Unbridled’s Song. Consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent.

By outstanding filly sire Malibu Moon, this is the second foal out of an unraced daughter of emerging broodmare sire Unbridled’s Song. The mare is half sister to I Want Revenge, a Grade 1 winner bred on the same A.P. Indy-line cross as this filly.

Hip 124, colt by Tapit-With Intention, by Mr. Greeley. Consigned by Gainesway, agent.

The only offering in the sale by perennial leading sire and commercial juggernaut Tapit, whose current yearlings were his second crop conceived on a $300,000 stud fee. This colt is a half to Group 3 winner Maftool.

Hip 131, filly by American Pharoah-Yong Musician, by Yonaguska. Consigned by Select Sales, agent for Machmer Hall.

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, from the resurgent Unbridled line, is represented by this lone offering from his first crop in the catalog after outs. American Pharoah has already been represented by two seven-figure hammer prices from his weanlings last fall and his short yearlings in January. This filly is a half sister to Peruvian Group 1-placed Kingdom Road and Grade 3-placed Co Cola. It is the immediate family of Canadian champion and Woodbine Oaks winner Kimchi and multiple Grade 1/Group 1 winner Mind Your Biscuits.

Hip 142, colt by Into Mischief-Amusingly, by Distorted Humor. Consigned by St George Sales, agent.

By a leading juvenile sire, this colt is a full brother to Grade 1-placed juvenile Dangerfield. Distorted Humor was America’s leading broodmare sire last season.

Hip 155, colt by More Than Ready-Beale Street Belle, by Tapit. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent.

Beale Street Belle, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Rolling Fog, is from one of the most active families in the stud book. Cultivated by the late Edward P.
