Fasig-Tipton July: Northwest Stud buys Harlan’s Holiday colt for $400,000

The popularity of sire Harlan’s Holiday continued to show on Monday at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July selected yearling sale, with Northwest Stud going to $400,000 to secure a son of the late stallion who became the co-second highest price of the session.

The transaction continued an active day for the Ocala, Fla.-based operation, which purchased the sale-topper through midafternoon,: a $550,000 Cowboy Cal colt.

The bay Harlan’s Holiday colt is the third foal out of the winning Vindication mare Invitation, who is a half sister to multiple Group 1-placed stakes winner Tomahawk. His second dam is the Grade 2 winner Statuette, who is a sibling to Grade 2 winner Academy Award and Grade 3 winner Good Mood. He is the most expensive foal out of Invitation to sell at public auction.

Bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III, the colt was sold as a weanling at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale, where he hammered for $140,000. The ticket was signed at that auction by his consignors at the July sale, Michael and Julia O’Quinn, agent, making for a successful pinhook.

Harlan’s Holiday, who died in the fall of 2013, accounted for two of the top six prices of the Fasig-Tipton July sale through the first 200 hips, with Conquest Stables going to $235,000 to secure a colt out of the winning Time for a Change mare Time for a Crown.
