Fasig-Tipton catalogs 185 entries for Gulfstream sale
Fasig-Tipton has released the catalog for its Gulfstream sale of 2-year-olds in training, featuring 185 initial entries.
The sale is set for Wednesday, March 27, beginning at 2 p.m. in Gulfstream's walking ring. An under-tack preview show will be held at Gulfstream on Monday, March 25. Supplemental entries will continue to be reviewed.
Fasig-Tipton moved its elite Florida sale of juveniles to Gulfstream Park in 2015, and that edition of the sale produced Nyquist, who went on to earn a 2-year-old championship and win the 2016 Kentucky Derby after selling for $400,000. Unbeaten Grade 2 winner Instagrand co-topped last year's sale at $1.2 million, and graduates of last year's auction also include multiple Grade 1 winner Bellafina, sold for $800,000.
“2019 marks our fifth year at Gulfstream Park, and quality results on the racetrack and in the sales ring have generated our strongest catalog to date,” Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said in a release. “This year’s main catalog is 17 percent larger than last year’s, and the depth of quality is outstanding.”
This year's catalog includes 10 representatives from the first crop of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, including a half-brother to Grade 1 winner I'm A Chatterbox, a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box, and a half-sister to Preakness Stakes third-place finisher Social Inclusion.
Leading juvenile sire Into Mischief – the sire of Instagrand – has 15 2-year-olds cataloged for this year's edition of the sale. Perennial leading sires and commercial powerhouses Tapit and War Front each have three representatives in the catalog.
