Fashionably Fast works half-mile for Thor's Echo Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - The five-time stakes winner Fashionably Fast worked a half-mile in 47.80 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday in advance of a scheduled start in the $100,000 Thor’s Echo Stakes for California-breds at six furlongs on Saturday.
A 6-year-old gelding, Fashionably Fast won the Tiznow Stakes for statebreds at a mile in February and has been third in his last two starts, both against open company – the Santana Mile on March 28 and an allowance race on April 24.
Trained by Dean Pederson for Harris Farms, Per Antonsen, and John Nicoletti, Fashionably Fast has won 8 of 22 starts and has earned $590,661. Pederson said the recent gap between races should work in favor of Fashionably Fast in the Thor’s Echo.
“He’s had six or seven weeks,” Pederson said. “He’s pretty fresh.”
The Thor’s Echo nominees include Brickyard Ride and Tigre Di Slugo, the first two finishers of the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at seven furlongs on March 6.
The top race at Santa Anita next weekend is Sunday’s Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes, a $100,000 race for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.
