Fashionably Fab looks to back up big-Beyer maiden romp

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Fashionably Fab made quite a splash earning her diploma in her second start and should be a short price in Thursday’s third race at Woodbine, a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired allowance and $40,000 claimers.
Fashionably Fab earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest by a 2-year-old in Canada this year, winning a maiden race by 11 1/4 lengths at seven furlongs Oct. 9. She had finished third at first asking in a key 5 1/2-furlong maiden dash in September that was won by the future stakes winner A Touch of Red.
“I thought she was going to win first time out, but she got beat by a good horse,” trainer Kevin Attard recalled. “It’s not that I was disappointed, but I did expect her to be one of those horses who could possibly have won first time.”
Attard said the daughter of Silent Name more than made amends in her second trip postward.

“When they win that easy, they run a big number,” Attard said. “Obviously, it’s inflated, but she did run fast and looked good. I didn’t think she’d win that easy, but she ran like I thought she could have first time. I think she’s a nice filly with a big future.”
Fashionably Fab breezed a half-mile in 48 seconds on Oct. 22, to the satisfaction of her trainer.
“She had a nice little easy half-mile,” Attard said. “She’s doing welI. I was happy to see this race go because it allows her to stick with Ontario-sired company for now, and then lean towards an Ontario-bred or Ontario-sired stakes at the end of the meet.”
Rafael Hernandez will ride Fashionably Fab again for Terra Racing Stable, which also campaigns her stakes-placed half-sister Souper Flashy.
Among the others in the eight-horse field of fillies are Souper Sinclair, More Gelato, Sixth Anniversary, Canadiansweetheart, and Golden Train.
Souper Sinclair finished second as a maiden in the Aug. 28 Muskoka Stakes for graduates of Canadian yearling sales. She went on to graduate on the grass before failing to stay 1 1/16 miles when eighth in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes.
Trained by Phil Hall, Souper Sinclair should be the second choice in the wagering under Keveh Nicholls.
More Gelato raced wide part of the way over an inside-favoring track when fifth against open allowance opposition Oct. 23, in her first start since beating $25,000 maidens.
Sixth Anniversary rode the same bias before ending up sixth behind More Gelato when both competed for $75,000 in that allowance with a claiming option.
Canadiansweetheart took a while to put it all together before she dusted $25,000 maidens in her seventh start Oct. 6.
Golden Train has struggled at the first allowance category since winning her maiden third time out in August.
