Fashionably Fab brings win streak into La Prevoyante

Michael Burns Fashionably Fab has won her last three races over dirt, turf, and Tapeta and was made the morning line odds-on favorite for the La Prevoyante Stakes at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Kevin Attard will take two shots at Saturday’s $100,000 La Prevoyante Stakes when he runs Fashionably Fab and Strega in the 1 1/16-mile event for Ontario-sired females.

Fashionably Fab has evolved into one of the leading and most versatile 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine. After getting fried in a speed duel in the Woodbine Oaks on July 23, she was a prominent third in another rich Tapeta route, the Bison City Stakes.

Fashionably Fab commenced a three-race win streak against Ontario-sired stakes company under Patrick Husbands in the 6 1/2-furlong Rondeau Bay on the dirt Sept. 12 at Fort Erie. She doubled up against older rivals in the 7 1/2-furlong Eternal Search on the inner turf and ran the race of her life most recently when romping in the 1 1/16-mile Ashbridges Bay on the Tapeta.

“She’s definitely turned the corner,” Attard said. “Patrick rides her a little bit differently. He gets her to relax early, and I think it helps, especially at these longer distances. If she holds her form [Saturday], she should be pretty solid in there.”

Strega set a slow pace on a live rail when clearing the second allowance condition in a nine-furlong Tapeta tilt Aug. 20. From post 10 most recently in the Eternal Search, she finished six lengths behind Fashionably Fab in ninth.

“She drew a bad post in the turf race and was wide throughout,” Attard pointed out. “She’s definitely better on the Tapeta.”

Strega dropped a neck decision to Sister Seagull in the 2022 Bison City and eventually won last year’s Ashbridges Bay. Attard was tickled with her third-place finish behind Grade 3 winner Il Malocchio and Silent Causeway in last year’s La Prevoyante.

“I thought she ran a stellar race that day,” Attard recalled. “If she were to come up with that same sort of performance, she’d be tough to beat.”

Tito’s Calling is the other obvious contender in the five-horse field.

Trained by Mike DePaulo, Tito’s Calling closed for second in the Bison City before notching her first stakes going 1 1/4 miles on the grass in the Wonder Where on Sept. 10. Three weeks later, she ran a deceptively good fifth against the boys in the 1 1/2-mile Breeders’ Stakes, the anchor leg of the Canadian Triple Crown on the main turf.

Tito’s Calling collared pacesetter Seattle Causeway in the stretch most recently when second as the odds-on favorite in the Ashbridges Bay.

“She’s doing really good,” DePaulo said. “She ran a new [Ragozin] top last time. [Fashionably Fab] just ran off the TV.”

My Girl Sky ran third in the 2022 Ashbridges Bay after taking the Thunder Bay Stakes on the grass, her preferred surface. She was along for fifth most recently in the Eternal Search.

Talk to Ya Later was a wide-closing third two back in the Eternal Search before a chalky runner-up placing in an Ontario-sired allowance.
