Fashion Plate could return in Acorn

ARCADIA, Calif. – Fashion Plate, the winner of consecutive Grade 1 races in California this year, has returned to trainer Simon Callaghan’s stable at Santa Anita after finishing 11th in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs last Friday.
Callaghan said Tuesday that Fashion Plate might not be home for long. She is being considered for the $750,000 Acorn Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over a mile at Belmont Park on June 7.
Fashion Plate became upset in the gate before the Kentucky Oaks. She hopped at the start and did not take her customary position near the front of the field. Fashion Plate was last in the 12-horse field for the first mile and passed one rival in the last furlong.
“She took a little hair off an ankle when she got restless in the gate, but it’s superficial,” Callaghan said. “We’re going to sit tight and let her tell us when she’s ready. We wouldn’t rule out the Acorn.
“She didn’t get a chance to show what she can do. It was disappointing on the day, but she’s fine, and there will be other days for her.”
Fashion Plate races for Michael Tabor and Arnold Zetcher. By Old Fashioned, Fashion Plate has won 3 of 6 starts and $469,250. She won the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes in February and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks on April 5, her only stakes appearances besides the Kentucky Oaks.
