Farrell a go for Silverbulletday

NEW ORLEANS – Trainer Wayne Catalano left the door open to taking Farrell out of the Silverbulletday Stakes even after entering the filly Friday, but after Farrell worked five furlongs in 1:01.60 on Sunday, Catalano said she would indeed start Saturday in the $150,000 Silverbulletday.
“She worked by herself, and she worked very well,” Catalano said. “It looks like we’re running.”
Farrell made her two-turn debut in the Grade 2 Golden Rod last November at Churchill and won by six lengths. She’s the likely favorite in the Silverbulletday over Untapped, who was scheduled to have her final work for the race Tuesday.
While Farrell is a go for the Silverbulletday, there’s a good chance Saint’s Fan will be scratched from the Grade 3, $200,000 Lecomte Stakes after drawing the outside post in a 12-horse field.
“I don’t think I’m going to run him,” said Dallas Stewart, who bred, owns, and trains Saint’s Fan. “I don’t like the post position. I might change my mind, but that’s how I feel right now.”
Saint’s Fan, a Louisiana-bred by Tale of Ekati, won his career debut against open maidens at Churchill Downs and has been flattered by that race’s third-place finisher, Proforma, who subsequently has won a maiden race and the Sugar Bowl Stakes here. Saint’s Fan returned to win the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile on Dec. 10.
“I don’t feel that good about this race,” Stewart said. “He had the outside post last time, he broke out, and he was able to overcome it. I just don’t want a situation where it doesn’t turn out good for him. There are a lot of horses in there that have two-turn experience; he doesn’t have two-turn experience. I’m probably just going to be patient with him.”
