Fancy Dress Party stays perfect with Glitter Woman win

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Fancy Dress Party was all the rage again as the blaze-faced filly ran her unbeaten record to three with a 5 3/4-length triumph in the $75,000 Glitter Woman, the second of two sprint stakes Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

Always in contention under Luis Saez, Fancy Dress Party drew off leaving the quarter pole before finishing six furlongs in 1:11.81 over a fast track. She paid $3.80 as the heavy favorite in the Glitter Woman, which followed autumn victories in a maiden race at Keeneland and a first-level allowance at Churchill Downs.

Ben Colebrook, who trains the 3-year-old Munnings filly for LNJ Foxwoods, was noncommital about returning here in four weeks from his winter base at Tampa Bay Downs for the next Gulfstream race in this division, the Feb. 2 Forward Gal at seven furlongs.

“She got a late start on her 2-year-old year, we haven’t put her on Lasix, and it’s a long year ahead,” Colebrook said. “I won’t rule it out, but we’ll see. She sure is a nice filly.”

Horologist was up in the final jumps to nail Brunette Princess for second, with Jeltrin finishing fourth in a field of eight.

Seismic Jolt shakes loose

In the first of five stakes for 3-year-olds Saturday at Gulfstream, Seismic Jolt rolled to a 3 1/2-length victory in the $75,000 Limehouse after racing close to the early pace with Tyler Gaffalione aboard. The Florida-bred son of Kantharos paid $9.40 after finishing six furlongs in 1:11.28.

Seismic Jolt, owned by eFive Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables, was purchased last April for $800,000. After two maiden defeats, he won here easily last month versus statebreds prior to making his stakes debut Saturday.

“He’s just made this nice, steady progression,” winning trainer David Fawkes said.

Splicethemainbrace, also in close attendance to the early pace, ran along to be second, another 2 1/4 lengths before late-running Final Jeopardy, the 11-10 favorite in a field of seven colts and geldings.

Although Fawkes said he believes Seismic Jolt “will stretch out – some,” the colt is a more logical candidate for the next Gulfstream race in this category, the seven-furlong Swale on Feb. 2.
