Mahoning Valley

Familiar foes clash in Bobby Bricker Memorial

John McDulin|Dec 18, 2014

The final stakes of 2014 in Ohio takes place Saturday at Mahoning Valley Race Course near Youngstown, where five Ohio-accredited fillies and mares contest the $50,000 Bobbie Bricker Memorial Handicap at 1 1/16 miles.

All five faced each other Nov. 15 in the Ohio Debutante at ThistleDown going the same distance. The timer in that race malfunctioned so there were no Beyer Figures assigned.

Bobbie Bricker Memorial, race 4

KEY CONTENDERS

Circle Can Run (Last 3 Beyers: 60-42-55)

◗ She won the Debutante two races back by 2 1/2 lengths when sent off as the 3-2 favorite. She finished second in her only local start, the First Lady on Nov. 29 going six furlongs.

◗ She is the odds-on morning -ine favorite and gives up to 10 pounds to her rivals.

Isadella (Last 3 Beyers: 59-52-50)

◗ She finished second in the Ohio Debutante and second in an open allowance race Nov. 24 here going six furlongs.

Startin Something (Last 3 Beyers: 56-42-48)

◗ She finished third in the Debutante and then did not hit the board in the 1 1/8-mile Ruff/Kirchner Memorial here Dec. 6. Both were run on a sloppy track, and she may not have liked the wet surface. A multiple Ohio champion, she has won only 1 of 6 races on off tracks.
