Fairmount track report

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. - Two-year-old colts and geldings will be featured on the final night of Fairmount Park's meet in the $25,000-added Buckpasser Stakes. A full field of 10 locally trained horses should make for an interesting betting race.

An uncoupled entry from the barn of trainer Stephanie Rakers looks strong. Rakers claimed Cherokee Junction for owner Ed Knell Jr. out of a $30,000 maiden race at Churchill in late June and the horse has won three of four starts since. Most recently, Cherokee Junction shipped to Keeneland and won for a $50,000 claiming tag. The other entrant from Rakers' barn is Whazupsammy, who won three straight here this summer before losing his last two.

Major Dundee is a late-developing youngster from the barn of Eugene Young who took five tries to win his maiden, then came right back to win an open allowance race in his next start. Major Dundee closed strongly in that race and gave the impression that his best days are ahead.

Trainer Jim Boehm has entered the stakes-placed maiden Dr. Spellbinder, who shipped to Arlington twice for maiden special races and ran well enough to encourage Boehm to try his luck in the Marluel's Troy Stakes here Oct. 1. Dr. Spellbinder finished second in that race, five lengths behind Wiggins but eight lengths ahead of the rest of the field.
