Fair Maiden, La Brea Stakes winner, retired

Fair Maiden, the winner of the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita, was recently retired after losses in graded sprint stakes this year at Santa Anita and Keeneland.
Trainer Eoin Harty said Fair Maiden will be bred to Uncle Mo.
Owned and bred by Godolphin Racing, Fair Maiden, 4, won 4 of 10 starts and earned $324,778. Prior to the 20-1 upset in the La Brea Stakes at seven furlongs, Fair Maiden won the Catch a Glimpse Stakes at Woodbine in 2019 and was 12th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita that year.
This year, Fair Maiden finished eighth in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes at Santa Anita in February and sixth in the Grade 1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland on April 3.

“It seemed like a prudent move,” Harty said of Fair Maiden’s retirement. “She ran two disappointing races back to back.”
Two six-figure claims on Sunday
The 3-year-old colts Barraza and Doncic were each claimed for $100,000 from a maiden race at six furlongs in Sunday’s third race at Santa Anita.
Barraza ($3.40) led throughout to win by 5 1/2 lengths over 3-1 Doncic.
Trainer Vladimir Cerin claimed Barraza for owners David and Holly Wilson from owner and breeder Spendthrift Farm and trainer Bob Baffert. Barraza had his fourth start Sunday. He was fourth in two starts in 2020 and second on March 13, all in maiden special weight races.
Barraza is by Into Mischief and out of Halo Dolly, a millionaire and 10-time stakes winner.
Doncic, by Cairo Prince, had his career debut on Sunday for the partnership of Eric Homme, Greg James, and William Strauss and trainer Andrew Lerner and was claimed by Pete and Kosta Hronis and trainer John Sadler.
Doncic was purchased for $47,000 at a 2-year-olds in-training sale last year.
