Fair Grounds in New Orleans will close out its Quarter Horse meet Saturday with a 12-race program led by the richest race of the season, the $297,220 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale Futurity. The LQHBA Sale Futurity is a restricted Grade 1 and one of five stakes on the program. Together, the races are worth more than $435,000. Second Down Leaving will put a perfect 3-for-3 record on the line in the Sale Futurity. He won the first two starts of his career at Delta Downs, including the $50,000 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes. Second Down Leaving then came to Fair Grounds and set the fastest qualifying time for the Sale Futurity when he won his 350-yard trial by a neck in 17.39 seconds on Aug. 18. Stormy T will be going for her fourth consecutive victory when she starts in the Sale Futurity. She began her streak in a maiden race at Delta, then was a nose winner of her trial Aug. 18. Another leading contender is the multiple stakes-placed Tf El Whiskey. ◗ Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., opens its Quarter Horse meet on Saturday with trials for the 350 yard division of the Black Gold Futurity. The Grade 3 race , which has a purse of $133,500 added, will be run on Sept. 24. The 440-yard division of the Black Gold Futurity will close out the meet on Nov. 11.
