Fair Grounds: Mylute shows he still has it in return win
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLENEW ORLEANS – Mylute was one of the elite 3-year-olds of 2013, and he served notice Thursday that he is ready to count himself among the strong group of older horses still in training with a sharp comeback victory in an optional claimer at Fair Grounds.
“We’ve got big plans for him,” said trainer Tom Amoss, adding that the Grade 3, $300,000 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks Day, May 2, is the next goal for Mylute.
Mylute was second in last year’s Louisiana Derby here, then was fifth in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Preakness. He went to the sidelines following an eighth-place finish in the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. He did his early preparation for his comeback at the farm of one of his co-owners, GoldMark Farm, under the supervision of Todd Quast.
“He came in with a tremendous foundation from GoldMark,” Amoss said. “He had a good Triple Crown campaign and survived it, which says a lot about how he should do at 4. He came back a good, sound animal.”
Mylute rallied up the rail under Rosie Napravnik to win Thursday’s race at one mile and 70 yards by one length. He was timed in 1:41.69.
