Fair Grounds horses to watch: Week of Feb. 8
EMBELLISHING BOB
Trainer: Steve Margolis
Last race: Jan. 31, 7th
Finish: 3rd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 82
Margolis barn almost never wins with first-time starters, which had to be kept in mind alongside this North Afleet colt’s good-looking work pattern for debut. He was bumped at the start and caught inside the whole trip, but stayed on well in one of the meet’s faster maiden special weight races, finishing 10 1/2 lengths in front of the fourth-place finisher. Should be tough next time.
WARREN’S REBEL
Trainer: Andy Leggio
Last race: Feb. 1, 4th
Finish: 1st by 2
Beyer: 87
Louisiana-bred sprinter beat leading older La.-bred Sunbean in his second start in December 2012, but in 10 races since he had failed to improve at all over the first two races of his career. But blinkers were added for this start and, voila, there was the talent again. Retains upside with hood now in place.
