Fair Grounds, Boyd Gaming donate to flood victims

Fair Grounds Race Course and Boyd Gaming, the parent company of Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs, are making donations to those affected by the recent floods in Louisiana.

Boyd Gaming announced Monday that it will provide $50,000 to match cash donations made to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in Louisiana through Sept. 12.

Fair Grounds, in New Orleans, along with First American Bankcard announced Saturday they have donated $27,847 to the United Way of Southeast Louisiana.

The flooding that occurred earlier this month was largely in the Baton Rouge, La., area. Evangeline, located in Opelousas, La., had to scrap two cards of racing because the streets leading to the track were flooded. Fair Grounds has been able to race Quarter Horses as scheduled, while Delta Downs, located in Vinton, La., does not race again until October.
