"Eye" on Woodbine for January 12-14

Ken Walters|Jan 17, 2012

Thursday, January 12

ST LADS PENNY LANE (NW1-FM) - Despite rallying wide through the lane over a speed favoring track, she seemed to be measuring at the end. She should be able to stay a threat in the next race or two.
PROMISING LASS (NW1) - Battled head to head, nose to nose for second place and got it done.
WINDSUN T BIRD (CLM10000-FM) - Finished with a rush from the back outkicking the favorite in the lane.
WESTERN (NW2FM) - Closed with strong strides cutting into the winner's lead with every stride, but it was asking too much from a bad spot in a quicker than normal race for that evening. Beaten favorite can atone.
THE ODESSA MAN (NW2) - Made a break at the start, took back, rallied and closed well but had lost any real chance with the early break.

Friday, January 13

RONETTICA (NW4-FM) - Rallied fastest, but much too late navigating between horses through the lane.
BANANA BABY (NW3-FM) - Nearly slipped one over by finishing full of pace (at 60-1) from a distant 3rd over, missing the gold by a neck over at well bet favorite.
CHINESE CUISINE (NW2) - Had willing trot and seemed capable of a better payday, but had too much stretch traffic to clear.
DEDALOS (CLM12000) - Sat boxed on the rail, rank with pace, bulled way out too late but finished willingly.
WINDSONG GRAND AVE (NW23500-FM) Pulled to the half, rushed up uncovered, challenged to the lane before tiring. A better timed move facing weaker could be the winning move.

Saturday, January 14

WESTWARDHO HANOVER (WILLOWDALE)- This beaten favorite was burdened by having to race 5th over in a slow rated first half trying to rally home following a host of foes wide into the stretch. To his credit he missed only two necks.
MUSSELSFRMBRUSSELS (NW14000) - Got parked for his lungs, prompted the pace to the final turn, seemed to weaken but battled back on guts to game out for second place.
HYPERION HANOVER (NW5000) - Went down the road from post nine in last over a closer favoring track, tired but dug in as long as he could.
