Eye N Capo brings fastest qualifying time into Dash For Cash Futurity
Eye N Capo accomplished a great deal in his debut last month and will attempt to build on that Saturday night in the Grade 2, $384,615 Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park.
Eye N Capo set the fastest qualifying time for the 400-yard race when he won the 12th and final trial Sept. 24. He will be part of a 10-horse field for the finale; among his rivals will be Paint My Pilot, the runner-up in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs, and Duponte, the winner of the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park.
The Dash For Cash is one of three stakes on the Saturday card. The program also features the Grade 3, $235,600 Dash For Cash Derby and the $42,735 Dash For Cash Juvenile.
Eye N Capo, who will break from the rail, showed real talent in his debut. He bounded to the lead after the start and went on to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Eye N Capo covered the distance on a track rated “good” in 19.758 seconds. Damian Martinez was aboard and has the mount again for trainer Adrian Huitron.
Duponte was the second-fastest qualifier, winning his trial by 1 1/2 lengths in 19.759. He will be looking for his third career stakes win, following the Heritage Place and the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs. Manuel Gutierrez has the mount for trainer Josue Ponce.
Paint My Pilot won his trial in the third-fastest time of 19.81. He rolled by two lengths under Yorandis Amaro, who will be back aboard from post 5. One start prior, Paint My Pilot finished second by a neck in the Rainbow, won by A Revenant.
In the Dash For Cash Derby, fastest qualifier Politically Corrupt will seek his fourth straight win. During his streak, he won the Retama Park Derby. Gutierrez has the mount for Jose Sanchez.
