Eye On the Card triumphs in Rainbow Futurity
Eye On the Card gave trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. and jockey Juan Pulido a sweep of the richest Rainbow series races when he darted to a three-quarter-length win over Cyber Attack in the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity on Sunday at Ruidoso Downs.
It was another length back in third to favorite Getthere Fast.
Carrizales and Pulido on Saturday won the Grade 1, $645,329 Rainbow Derby with A Pollitical Candy V.
Eye On the Card ($14) broke with the field in the Rainbow Futurity and kept a straight course to the wire. He covered 400 yards in 19.41 seconds. The track was fast.
Eye On the Card won his third straight race behind a Remington Park stakes and his trial for the Rainbow. The son of Docs Best Card races for Omar Hernandez.
Eye On the Card has now won 4 of 5 starts. The first-place check of $420,000 on Sunday pushed his career earnings to $582,561.
Earlier on the card, Cartel Kisses ($7) was a neck winner over Hooked N Gone in the $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile.
The Rainbow Futurity was the second of three major stakes for 2-year-olds at Ruidoso. The series concludes with the All American Futurity in September.
