Extra distance suits Grooms All Bizness in Carle Place Stakes

The added distance Grooms All Bizness picks up Sunday in the $120,000 Carle Place at the Belmont at the Big A meet could help him turn the tables on That’s Right.
The frequent rivals will meet over six furlongs on turf in the Carle Place, which is for 3-year-olds. The race drew 13, with three runners entered for the main track only. That’s Right, Run Curtis Run, and Outlaw Kid could start as the top three choices.
Grooms All Bizness is moving back to the 3-year-old ranks after closing for fourth in the Grade 3 Turf Monster on Sept. 24 at Parx Racing. That’s Right wired the field in the five-furlong race for a Beyer Speed Figure of 90. Grooms All Bizness finished 2 1/4 lengths behind the winner, for a career-high Beyer of 83.
“The six furlongs, I think he’ll benefit from not being as rushed,” said Jorge Duarte Jr., who trains Grooms All Bizness. “He’ll benefit from getting his feet under him.
“That seems like his style – position himself and have a nice kick on the end.”
Grooms All Bizness also faced That’s Right in July in the My Frenchman over 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Monmouth Park. Grooms All Bizness closed for third to That’s Right. In between the stakes appearances, Grooms All Bizness won a first-level allowance over older rivals in August at Monmouth.
“I think my horse is training well and is sitting on a good race,” Duarte said. “We’ve been training for this, looking forward to running in New York.”
The large field was not a surprise for a couple of reasons, Duarte said. He noted a similar stakes, the Born to Run for 3-year-olds at five furlongs on turf last Friday at the Meadowlands, was canceled due to inclement weather. For the Carle Place, Grooms All Bizness will break from post 6.
“It’s a straight 3-year-old race, on the turf, and kind of coming to the end of the year, spots are limited,” Duarte said. “I guess with the race canceled at the Meadowlands, we had a merge.”
Dylan Davis will be aboard Grooms All Bizness for breeder Colts Neck Stables.
That’s Right was a supplement to the Carle Place. He will start from post 2. Andy Hernandez has the mount for James Shannon Jr. and trainer Michael Moore.
Run Curtis Run has run second in back-to-back turf sprints in his last two starts, the Grade 3 Quick Call in July at Saratoga and the Grade 2 Franklin-Simpson in September at Kentucky Downs. Jose Ortiz has the mount from post 5 for trainer Mike Maker.
Outlaw Kid is making his stakes debut after winning a maiden special weight and first-level allowance in consecutive starts this fall in New York. Both races were turf sprints. Outlaw Kid earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 93 for his allowance win at six furlongs at Aqueduct, which is the best last-race number in the Carle Place.
Outlaw Kid is a son of Violence and the multiple stakes-winning mare Calling Rhy Rhy. Javier Castellano has the mount from post 3 for trainer George Weaver.
