Explosive Spy keeps rolling in Carlos Salazar Stakes

Explosive Spy picked up her third stakes win in her last four starts Saturday night, closing from next to last for a 1 1/4-length victory in the $70,000 Carlos Salazar at The Downs at Albuquerque. Mike and Trixie finished second, while it was another three lengths back to A Kiss for Mom in third.
The Salazar was a 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares bred in New Mexico. The stakes honored the late sportswriter Salazar, who worked for the Albuquerque Tribune from 1946 through 1996, according to a press release from the track. Salazar is a member of the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame.
Explosive Spy ($8.40) closed into fractions of 23.07 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.35 for the half-mile before going on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:16.46. Frank Reyes was aboard for trainer Dan Dennison.
Explosive Spy is a daughter of Your Eminence who races for her breeder, Michael Weatherly. The other stakes wins in her last four starts were the Lincoln Handicap at Ruidoso in July and the Foutz Distaff at SunRay Park in April. Explosive Spy overall has won six of 19 starts and earned $191,900.
