Explode much the best in Chris Loseth Handicap
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Explode, coming off a four and one half length romp in the $50,000 River Rock Casino on June 2, took complete control of the sophomore stakes division at Hastings with another decisive victory in the $50,000 Chris Loseth Handicap. He paid $3.40 for his six-length victory over Whiskey Bound in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds.
After breaking last and trailing the field early, jockey Amadeo Perez moved Explode into a stalking position going into the second turn. He rallied three wide heading into the stretch turn and the race was pretty much over when he took over the lead midway through the turn. Whiskey Bound rallied from last to edge pacesetter Ring Of Kerry by a nose. Ring of Kerry carved out interior fractions of 24.23 and 47.36 seconds.
The final time was 1:44.93
“He broke a little better than he did last time,” said Perez. “He was in a good position and when I asked him to run he really took off.”
Trained by Mark Cloutier, Explode races for Canmor Farms.
A gelded son of Trappe Shot, he was bred in Kentucky by Flaxman Holdings.
