Evening Reward has a new favorite surface at the age of 7. He won the first turf race of his career with style on Saturday night, when he edged the mare Skedee by a nose in the $50,000 Red Earth at Remington Park. It was another three lengths back in third to Ti Township. Evening Reward ($21.40) was making his fourth career start on the grass in the 7 1/2-furlong race for Oklahoma-breds, and was prominent through fractions of 22.90 and 46.51 seconds. In the drive, he managed to fight off Skedee, who had last raced at Santa Anita. Evening Reward covered the distance on firm ground in 1:28.36. Scott Young rode Evening Reward for George Kennedy and trainer Joe McAnally. Evening Reward has spent a good deal of his career sprinting on dirt, with his other stakes win coming under such conditions in the Route 66 at Will Rogers Downs near Tulsa. He has now won 9 of 47 starts and $262,506.
