Even Thunder heads south for Mucho Macho Man Stakes

Even Thunder, who won the King’s Swan Stakes at Aqueduct on Dec. 2, will make his next start in the $100,000 Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park next Saturday, trainer Joe Orseno said.
Orseno felt the one-turn mile configuration of the Mucho Macho Man was a better spot to stretch the horse out in distance than two turns over the inner track. Even Thunder has competed in only sprints in his first five starts. The King’s Swan was Even Thunder’s first and only start for Orseno and Leonard Green’s D J Stable, which purchased the horse privately in October.
“When we ran him short in New York we thought the one-turn mile would be a better next start for him,” Orseno said Friday from Florida. “We’re actually thinking of sending him back. Hopefully, we’re still talking about it after the race.”
Orseno is referring to running Even Thunder in the Grade 3, $250,000 Withers Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 4.
◗ NYRA’s 2017 calendar will be available for purchase Sunday for $5.
