Evangeline sale numbers down

Jeff Taylor|Mar 24, 2009

Taylor's Tiger, by the young sire Roar of the Tiger, was the sale-topper at Sunday's John Franks Memorial 2-year-old in training sale at Evangeline Downs. Midwest Thoroughbred paid $77,000 for the accredited Louisiana-bred colt, who was consigned by Southwind Farm.

Sold as Hip No. 121, he is out the multiple winning and producing Salt Lake mare Salty Suzy.

Midwest Thoroughbred also bought the highest priced filly at the sale - Hip No. 147, by More Than Ready out of Nokia, by Theatrical - for $62,000.

Receipts for this year's sale totaled $1,736,700 for 199 lots sold, a decline of 4.9 percent from last year, when 172 juveniles were sold. The average price of $8,727 was 17.8 percent less than a year ago.
