Evangeline: Miss Atlantic prevails

Under patient handling from Kirk LeBlanc, Miss Atlantic ($11.60) staged a game rally up the inside to capture Friday night's $100,000 Filly Division of the John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Princess Deelite, who had lodged a rally of her own while five wide only to be caught in the late going, had to settle for second, followed by Ocean Express and Mizzen to Me.

The winner is trained Keith Desormeaux for the Cantrell Family Partnership and is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Stormy Atlantic, She turned the tables on Ocean Express, the filly she had finished second to in her career debut last month. The final time for 5 1/2 furlongs was 1:06.54 over a fast strip.
