Evangeline: Hail to Bag stays unbeaten

Hail to Bag ran his record to 4 for 4 in the $50,000 Lafayette Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Rapide, four times runner-up in as many starts, finished second to Hail to Bag for the second time. Longshot Doeny Rain ran third. Courvoisier, undefeated in three previous starts, finished seventh.

Hail to Bag ($3.20), owned by trainer Doris Hebert and Brittlyn Stable, broke in good order under Steve Bourque from post 1 and quickly opened up daylight on the field. He set early fractions of 22 and 45 seconds and was in front by 3 1/2 lengths going into the stretch.

He won by 5 1/2 lengths, and ran the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:11.20.
